Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Mobile Jazz Festival 2019

Attention jazzoids - the annual Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Mobile Jazz Festival is almost upon us. This year's headliner is renowned jazz trombonist and record producer, Delfeayo Marsalis! July 22nd through August 2, 2019 in Mobile, AL. The Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival isn't just one but a series of jazz-related events span more than a month. The festival's goal is spreading the jazz message via an eclectic lineup of world-renowned and up-and-coming jazz artists. Beyond Delfeayo Marsalis, this year's event will also see the E. B. Coleman Orchestra, Karmilla Ali, and The Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp Band. The festival kicks off on July 25th with "An Evening of Jazz & Spoken Word" at The History Museum of Mobile (111 S. Royal Street). This event features Yo Jonesy & the Crowned Jewelz, Huggy Bear da Poet, and The PowerLines Poets. The big event is Jazz at Laidlaw, on August 2nd, with headliner Delfeayo Marsalis. This concert will also feature the E. B. Coleman Orchestra, Karmilla Ali, and The Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp Band.

The Marcus Johnson Summer Jazz Camp is part of the festival. This dynamic, 10-day learning experience focuses on the history and fundamentals of jazz. Though the class is primarily attended by school-aged musicians, anyone may attend and students have ranged in age from 6 to 76. The class ends with a performance at the Jazz at Laidlaw festival concert. These "students" can really play!
