5 Rivers refers to the spot where the Mobile, Spanish, Tensaw, Apalachee, and Blakeley rivers flow into Mobile Bay. It also names Alabama's Delta Resource Center, an incredible facility for outdoor recreation!
5 Rivers Delta Resource Center is an extraordinary facility in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Located in Spanish Fort, AL, 5 Rivers includes over 250,000 acres of scenic waterways, woods, and wetlands to explore.
To put it quite simply: for those interested in the great outdoors, there is no better place for adventure and natural beauty. The Mobile-Tensaw Delta consists of a complex network of tidally-influenced rivers, creeks, bays, lakes, wetlands and bayous.
The area is home to 126 species of fish, 40 species of mammals, 69 species of reptiles, 30 species of amphibians, and more than 300 species of birds. There are also 500 species of plants here! This rich diversity of life relies on the immense estuary, where the tide flows in to mix fresh and salt water.
Several area outfitters offer kayak and canoe rentals, as well as airboat and other tours of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Pontoon tours will get you up close and personal with the flora and fauna. Sunset cruises of the delta, on the other hand, may just convince you that there is a heaven here on earth!
Guided tours and field trips are available - or you can set off on your own on one of the many trails. Your efforts will reward you with a fascinating and diverse array of wild plant and animal sightings.
5 Rivers is also home to an impressive array of facilities that will help you to explore and understand the region. The 81-acre complex includes the Apalachee Exhibit Hall, Tensaw Theater, Blakeley Hall Conference Center, Delta Hall, and the Cypress Gift Shop. The center hosts a variety of special events and educational programs throughout the year.
